549,260. Seed-sowers. O'KELLY, A. D. L. Sept. 30, 1941, No. 12648. Convention date, Feb. 17. [Class 6 (i)] Seeds are delivered from a hopper 3 to a shoot 1 by a rotary disc 16 containing peripheral apertures which register successively with an opening 20 in the inclined hopper wall 7. Bevel, skew or other gearing, preferably of variable transmission ratio, drives the .disc spindle 10 from a machine shaft. Toothed wheels 24 engaging with the apertures in the disc 16 eject the seeds from the disc pockets which may be uniformly distributed around the disc or grouped for sowing at prescribed intervals. Unwanted rings of pockets may be masked by a slide adjustable in the wall 7. The bush 11 may project slightly beyond the face of the wall 7 to avoid friction between the wall and the disc 16 which may be grooved at the back to reduce contact and disperse dust. Agitating mechanism may be mounted in the hopper. The hopper may be pivoted about the axis of the actuating shaft, or about an axis parallel to the direction of movement. Small seeds may be ejected by a spring 29.
