765,024. Seed-sowers. STOKLAND, S. March 9, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6994/55. Class 6(1). A seed-sower, wherein seed is fed by a feeding device 3, 4, 5 from a container 1 to a distributer 18 which discharges it uniformly into radiallyspaced spouts 28 each leading to a drill-tube (not shown), is characterized in that the feeding device comprises a vertical stationary screw 3 surrounded by a rotary sleeve 5 which is closed at its lower end but has, adjacent thereto, one or more circumferential openings 21 communicating with the interior of the seed-container. An end-closure 7 for the sleeve is rotatable in a support 2 forming the base of the seed-container 1. A bevel-gear 10 secured to the member 7 is driven by a bevel-gear 14 on a driving shaft 13 which supports a bearing 12 carrying a stationary shaft 11 within the gear 10. The lower end of the screw 3 is screwed into a threaded recess 15 in the shaft 11. The sleeve extends beyond the screw-thread 4 and is integral with a disc 18 carrying vanes 19 which project seeds horizontally through the spouts 28, the excess seed falling back into the container 1. The rate of feeding is variable by the rotation of an apertured baffle 29 so as partially to obturate the ports and by rotation of a further damper 22 to obturate the inlets 21 to the feeding device. In a modification, the screw is vertically adjustable to vary the rate of feed. The container 1 communicates with a larger hopper 31, and the spouts project in a semicircular series beyond the wall thereof and beneath a cover 33. The drill tubes lead to furrowing tools (not shown).
