Abstract

549,235. Printing processes. MICHIGAN RESEARCH LABORATORIES, Inc. Nov. 21, 1940, No. 16756. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (ii)] Paper or other material is printed with an ink comprising a water-insoluble pigment and a waterinsoluble binder dissolved in a water-insoluble solvent and is then treated with water, e.g. in the form of steam, so that a thin film of the binder is formed on the surface of the print to prevent offset. The binder may be shellac and the solvent diethylene glycol. Another binder using the same solvent may be the resin described in the U.S.A. Specification 2,063,542. The printed material in web form may be passed through a box like casing in which is arranged above the web a perforated steam pipe supplied with steam at atmospheric pressure and at about 100‹C. a flannel covered trough is arranged below the pipe to prevent condensation falling on the web.
