901,412. Photomechanical printing plates. FIELD, A. E. Aug. 1, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 13997/57. Class 98 (2). A printing plate has a surface comprising printing elements in half-tone pattern and which elements are etched or otherwise treated all over to form cells for receiving and holding ink. Production thereof may be by initially etching or otherwise treating the whole surface of a plate to form cells, sensitizing, exposing through a half-tone negative or screen for resist formation, and etching away the non-printing areas. In use the greater amount of ink available on the plate permits satisfactory printing on brown or obscurely coloured paper, and colour printing on ordinary newspaper is referred to. Other methods of forming the printing plates are indicated. Specification 824,769 is referred to.
