Abstract
549,138. Colloidal sols. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. Sept. 11, 1940, No. 14090. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1939. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Textile materials are given a mat finish by treatment with an aqueous liquid containing a water-soluble aluminium salt and a white inorganic pigment in suspension. The pigment may be titanium dioxide, barium sulphate, kaolin, or antimony oxide. In an example, titanium dioxide is mixed into a paste with a small quantity of aluminium triformate and water and the paste is then diluted with a large quantity of water. Instead of aluminium triformate there may be used aluminium sulphate. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of coloured pigments such as iron oxide or cadmium sulphide and of water-soluble salts of metals, other than aluminium, or tri- or higher valency, e.g. salts of titanium or zirconium. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
