Abstract

548,715. Electrically-tripped switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. April 25, 1941, No. 5348. Convention date, June 11, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An impulse-actuated relay suitable for the changing-over of multiple-tariff meters comprises an oscillatory armature 5 co-operating with poles 1, 2 of a magnet 3 energized by coil 4. When a change-over switch 17 is moved to contact 15, coil 4 is energized over contacts 12, 9 and moves armature 5 to, and beyond, the axis of poles 1, 2 and attracts a detent armature 6 to pole 1. At the same time a pin 10 on armature 5 allows contact 9 to fall away from contact 12 and engage contact 13. The resultant de-energization of coil 4 causes the armature detent 6 to fall and engage a stop 11, so maintaining armature 5 in position beyond the pole-axis. When 17 is moved back to contact 14 the coil 4 is again energized to lift detent armature 6 and free armature 5. which begins to move back under the magnetic force and action of return spring 8. After a small movement, however, pin 10 separates contact 9 from contact 13 and the armature 5 returns to the position shown. The coils 4 of several relays may be arranged in parallel, only one relay having a change-over device. If the actuating device itself produces the impulses, the change-over device may be dispensed with. A resistance may be connected between contacts 13, 14 so as to make the second impulse weaker and ensure the relay keeping in step. The pivot shaft of armature 5 may be connected to a lever operating the change-over pinion of the meter mechanism.
