Abstract

903,721. Visible signalling-apparatus. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKHAM Ltd. Sept. 21, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958], No. 30776/58. Class 118. A semaphore indicator, for indicating the condition of a remotelydisposed switch, comprises a disc which is angularly movable between two positions by electromagnetic means, the electromagnetic means being energized only momentarily to effect each change of position of the disc. An electromagnet 11 is connected to a source of electric current through a changeover switch 21 and also through a second change-over switch (not shown), the latter being actuated in synchronism with the switch whose condition is to be indicated. The circuit is arranged so that actuation of the second change-over switch will cause energization of the electromagnet thereby attracting a spring-loaded armature 12 to operate the switch 21 which then breaks the circuit and allows the spring- loaded armature 12 to return to its original position, the two change-over switches thereupon forming an alternative circuit ready for the next energization of the electromagnet. The armature 12 of electromagnet 11 is connected to a spring-loaded pawl 14 operating a ratchet 16 which rotates upon a spindle 17 suspended between two plates 18 upstanding from the base of channel 7. At each end of the spindle 17 are square-shaped cams 19, 20, cam 19 being connected by a spring leaf 22 to changeover switch 21 and cam 20 to a spring-loaded lever 23 connected via pivoted lever 26, eccentric pin 28 and spindle 29 to the indicator disc 24 such that movement of the ratchet changes both the position of the switch 21 and the position of the disc. It is arranged so that if in either of the two positions angular movement is imparted to the disc to move it to the alternative position, other than by actuation of the cam 20, then the disc returns to its correct position as soon as it is released under the influence of either spring 27 or the two levers 23, 26 and spring 25. Specification 903,723 is referred to.
