Abstract

649,143. Electromagnetic switches. GUARDIAN ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 28, 1948, No. 6332. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1940. [Class 38(v)] A predetermined number of impulses delivered to an electromagnet 32 causes the reciprocation of its armature 36 and the step-by-step rotation of a ratchet wheel carrying a contact arm 22 till the arm engages a selected; contact 16 and so prepares a circuit 17 which is only completed through contacts 73, 74 and 85, 86 when an arm 82 of timing mechanism 83 which has been depressed by the armature 36 is allowed to rise slowly sufficiently to close the contacts 73, 74. The contacts 85, 86 were previously closed by the energization of an electromagnet 56 from a source between lines 105, 107 when contacts 75, 76 were closed by the first actuation of the armature 36. The arm 82 continues to rise after the closure of contacts 73, 74 till after a further time interval the contacts 75. 76 open causing de-energization of magnet 56, opening of contacts 85, 86 and breaking of the selected circuit 17. The de-energization of magnet 56 also causes a check pawl to be moved away from the ratchet wheel so that a spring returns this and the contact arm 22 to starting position. The timing mechanism 83 comprises a train of gearing connected to the arm 82 and which is spring loaded by rachet and pawl mechanism.
