[Class 78 (i)] A raising or lowering device for biscuits or like fragile articles comprises a drum 2 of relatively large diameter, say 5 feet, and furnished with a padded surface 14. The padding may be supported by a framework or cage of spaced wires carried by end discs. Around part of the periphery of the drum run two endless bands between which the biscuits are received. The outer band 26 has a lower guide roller 27 which forms a reception area 26a for the biscuits emerging from an oven conveyer 1. An upper guide roller 27, tensions the band by a spring or weight 30, and laterally adjustable troughs 36 track the band. The inner band 21 is tensioned by a guide roller 22 and passes over a delivery roller 23, or a knife edge, to transfer the biscuits from a delivery area 21a on to a conveyer 24. The drum 2 is driven by a motor 19 with a surface speed equal to that of the oven conveyer 1, and the bands 21, 26, which may be of flannel, are driven solely by friction from the drum 2. A supplementary conveyer 32 bridges the gap between the conveyer 1 and the area 26a, the receiving edge of this conveyer consisting of a knife edge 33 which can be turned upward to allow the biscuits to be shot at will down a shoot 37. The various parts may move in directions which will raise or lower the biscuits, and may be multiplied to transfer throughout the height of a building.
