Abstract

548,271. Expressing liquid from paper pulp. CELLULOSE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Ltd., POTT, C. D.. and HULKS, J. H. March 31, 1941, No. 4320. [Class 96] Liquid is. expressed from paper pulp by a converging worm-conveyer 23 within a cylindrical screen, projecting through a slot 56 of which are blades 21, 22 engaging the worm-screw to prevent the pulp rotating with the worm 23 which compresses the pulp against a hinged outlet door weight-loaded at 15. The cylindrical screen is reinforced by rings 38 and 57 and has an extension 55 beneath the pulp inlet hopper 19. The perforations of the cylindrical screen are countersunk on the outside. Expressed water drains through openings 41 of the machine casing. Pulp leaving the machine is supported on a core 53 which may be tapered and may be crumbled as by a rotating plate 54 &c. Liquid jets 49 may be used to prevent the pulp bridging the worm at the base of the hopper 19. A main and thrust bearing 25 is lubricated by an oil bath and scoop 28.
