[Class 38 (v)] The invention of the parent Specification is modified in that the connection to the chassis 11 through the self-locking trip relay 10 and switch 8 operated by the braking pedal is made to a point of a resistance 12 in shunt with the braking resistance 7, and a switch 9 is operated by a further depression of the braking pedal so as to short-circuit part of the resistance 7. Thus, if a fault occurs at or near the point of connection to resistance 12 so that little or no current flows through the connection, closure of switch 9 causes the potential of the point to be changed whereby sufficient tripping current is caused to flow.
