Abstract

547,770. Aircraft control surfaces. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., DOHERTY, E., and TRUYENS, C. P. J. May 6, 1941, No. 5897. [Class 4] The vane 2 of a balanced control surface is fitted with a packing strip 3 bearing against a flexible plate 4 on the fixed aerofoil in order to prevent air from passing past the vane, the flexible plate being normally of a flatter curvature than the path of the strip 3. The plate 4 may be secured at both edges to brackets 5 as shown or one edge may be permitted to slide. The outer coverings 7 of the fixed aerofoil are extended into proximity with the control surface 1 and the rear edges of the extensions are strengthend by stiffening members 9, 10.
