Abstract
547,583. Chenille; pile fabrics; tufted yarns. MORTON SUNDOUR FABRICS, Ltd., and MORTON, Sir J. June 7, 1941, No. 7231. [Classes 120 (iii) and 142 (iv)] . Tufted yarn for incorporation in a pile fabric comprises tufts some of which are destructible by treatment with a solvent to which the other tufts are resistant and a core or other binder which is also resistant to the solvent. Gelatine, alginic acid or a salt of alginic acid may be used for the destructible tufts so that they may be destroyed in an ordinary cleansing or scouring liquid. To obtain the tufted or chenille yarn, a cloth may be woven which consists of warps of cotton yarn and tuft-forming wefts some of which are of gelatine fibre and others are of cotton, and the cloth is cut warpwise to form the yarns. The chenille yarn may be woven as weft into a pile fabric having cotton warps, and the resulting fabric may be scoured with soap and soda ash to destroy the gelatine tufts to obtain a pile fabric having groups of cotton tufts interspersed amongst spaces presented by the cotton warps and pile-free sections of the cotton weft.
