Abstract

547,498. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and WILLOUGHBY, E. O. Feb. 28, 1941, No. 2749. [Class 40 (v)] In a single valve ultra short wave oscillator having transmission line tank circuits coupled to the grid and plate electrodes, a trimming condenser tied to the plate line is provided to balance the grid and plate transmission lines to cathode. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement with the output co-axial line LO tapped to the plate line AL, trimming condenser Cb being adjusted to rebalance the lines. Since the inductance L of the cathode lead only carries the out of balance current it may be neglected provided the lines AL, GL are of correct length and balanced. Alternatively a small condenser to tune may be connected across the lines. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which series condensers C1, C, both balance and trim, the difference C1-C2 being the balancing capacity and the series value, namely C1, C2/C1+C2 being the trimming or tuning adjustment. With valves of a large amplification factor a high grid leak may be necessary to prevent excessive grid swing unless a capacitive reactance, which may be a condenser or a length of transmission line, is placed in the cathode lead. The single valve may be replaced by a number of valves in parallel.
