Abstract
547,082. Eliminating noise. CAIN, G. T. April 11, 1941, No. 4824. [Class 40 (iv)] In an arrangement for enabling a desired sound to be heard in the presence of disturbing noise, as for example on an aeroplane, the sound mixture received by a microphone a is recorded by a magnet e on an iron tape i and a second magnet h records in opposite phase the noise alone, which is derived by reproduction from a previously made steel tape record c. A pick-up magnet k feeds headphones l or an amplifier and loudspeaker with the desired sound. The magnet h is adjustable in position and a rheostat g is included for varying the current thereto in order to balance out the noise accurately. Induction between the magnets e, h, k is prevented by screens f, j. Separate tape records c may be provided for use when the aeroplane is travelling at different speeds.
