Abstract

546,467. Accelerometers. BRITISH ROPES, Ltd., KERRY, J. L., and HITCHEN, H. Dec. 6, 1940, No. 17388. [Class 106 (iii)] A mass supported by leaf springs is fitted to the cage in winding gear and co-operates with electric contacts to signal abrupt departures from the normal rate of travel of the cage. A mass 1 is connected by leaf springs 2 to a standard 3 on a base plate 4 fixed to a pit cage or the like. The mass is connected by a pin 5 with a lever 6 having pivots 7 on a standard 8. The lever is provided at one end with an armature 11 arranged to move in the gap of a permanent magnet 13 to damp its movement, and carries a contact 14 adapted to co-operate with a contact 15 in an electric circuit so that when the latter is completed by relative movement between the mass 1 and the support a recording device or audible or visible signal device or both is or are actuated.
