Abstract

546,035. Lenses. TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd., and WYNNE, C. G. Dec. 23, 1940, No. 18025. [Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising four air-spaced components, of which the first and third are convergent and the second a compound divergent meniscus with air-exposed surfaces convex to the front, the radius of the front surface Re of the third component is numerically greater than 2.5 times the equivalent focal length of the objective and is positive or negative. The fourth component may be of zero power or be slightly convergent, may comprise a divergent element cemented in front of a convergent element having a mean refractive index between .06 and .12 greater than that of the divergent element, and may have an axial thickness lying between .2 and .35 times the equivalent focal length.
