Abstract

545,800. Closures for containers. LAING, J. March 2. 1942, No. 4379. [Class 125 (iii)] A jar 1 of the Kilner type having a peripheral screw band 3 to secure the cap is provided with a metal cap 5 of truncated conical form and a rubber ring washer 4. A straight strip 6 of resilient metal is placed across the cap and the band 3 is screwed down to engage the ends as shown. In this position the cap acts as a one-way valve, during the first part of the sealing operation. In another form the strip 6 is permanently attached to the cap 5 ; a handle is attached to the upper surface and a hook to the lower.
