Abstract

545,636. Valves for dry gas meters. JOHNSTON, H. Dec. 7, 1940, No. 17423. [Classes 54 and 135] A rotary disc valve for a dry gas meter comprises a valve seat having three narrow concentric seating surfaces a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>3</SP> joined by four radial ribs providing four inner ports leading to the four measuring chambers of the meter and four outer ports leading to a common outlet. The valve member which is continuously rotated by the meter mechanism acting through an arm jl has a segmental port i corresponding in area to one of the inner ports and diametrically opposed to the port i has a bridging passage divided by a curved rib to present areas corresponding to one inner and one outer port. The valve member may be 'formed with a narrow ridge surrounding the port and the mouth of the bridging passage. The valve member has a central spigot engaging a spring-supported ball housed in a recess in the valve seating. In a modification shown in Fig. 5 the valve member is formed with a lubricant chamber i<SP>4</SP> communicating with lubricating channels in the valve member and replenished through the hollow actuating spindle k<SP>j</SP>.
