Abstract
545,435. Magnesium. ABBEY, A. (Dow Chemical Co.). Nov. 22, 1940, No: 16816. [Class 82 (i)] Magnesium is recovered from vapour mixtures with carbon monoxide byepassing the mixture into contact with a molten metal, for example lead or lead containing some magnesium, which is maintained at a temperature above the boiling point off magnesium at the existing pressure but below the temperature at which the vapour pressure of magnesium dissolved in the metal is equal to the partial pressure of magnesium in the vapour mixture. The pressure may be atmospheric or' below 50mm. of mercury. Magnesium may be obtained from the solution by fractional crystallization or by distillation.
