Abstract

543,984. Separating sugar crystals. MIRRLEES WATSON CO., Ltd. (Shannon, C. R. D.). Sept. 20, 1940, No. 14381. [Class 127] Massecuite is heated, so as to facilitate separation of molasses from the sugar crystals by centrifugal action, by using as heating medium low pressure steam from the evaporator plant. The heater consists of a tank 5 having a rotary shaft 6 carrying paddles 7 between which are stationary coils 8 supplied with steam through valved connections 9 from a header 10 leading from the pipe 13 which convects the third stage C of a quadruple effect evaporator tothe fourth stage D. The coils 8 are connected through drain connection 11 to a header 12 from which vapour is returned to the outlet pipe 3 of the stage D and condensate passes to a trap 19.
