Abstract
542,528. Trimethyl borate. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. June 10, 1940, No. 10080. Convention date, June 10, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] Trimethyl borate, is made by heating methanol with boric acid, and fractionally distilling an azeotropic mixture of methanol and methyl borate from the re-action mixture. The methyl borate may be obtained by washing the distillate with cold concentrated sulphuric acid, separating the upper layer and redistilling. The methanol is preferably employed in excess of the stoichiometric proportions. Examples are given.
