Abstract
503,322. Insulation ; chlorocumenes. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., LEVINE, A. A., and CASS, O. W. Sept. 1, 1937,No.23880. [Class 36] [Also in Group IV] Dielectric compositions consist of (a) a mixture of two or more of trichlorisopropylbenzene, tetraohloriso-propylbenzene and pentachlorisopropylbenzene, the mixture being produced by the nuclear chlorination of cumene until 3À5-4À5 atoms of chlorine per molecule of cumene have been absorbed and (b) two or more of trichlorethylbenzene, tetraohlorethylbenzene and pentachlorethylbenzene. The chlorination of cumene may be effected at 0-75‹ C., in the absence of light, and in the presence of a catalyst such as iron, iodine or ferric chloride : the product may be fractionally distilled. A chlorinated ethylbenzene mixture containing 4À0-4À8 atoms of chlorine per molecule may be employed, this mixture being, if desired, separated into three fractions by distillation.
