Abstract
1,180,160. Rose oxide; 3-chloro-2,6-dimethyloct-1-en-8-ol. L. GIVAUDAN & CIE SOC. ANON. 8 Aug., 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 37876/68. Heading C2C. Rose oxide, 2-(2<SP>1</SP>-methyl-1<SP>1</SP>-propenyl)-4-methyltetrahydropyran, is prepared by the pyrolysis of 3 - chloro - 2,6 - dimethyloct - 1 - en - 8 - ol which may be prepared by chlorination of citronellol with chlorine. The product may be purified to yield a mixture of isomers in the ratio cis: trans = 2: 1 or to yield the pure cis isomer. Specification 1,079,421 is referred to.
