Abstract

542,499. Wheel scrapers. GAYE, F. July 4, 1940, No. 11249. [Class 108 (ii)] Mud &c. is extruded from gaps in the tread of a road wheel trye b by means of a rubber or like roller f rotated in contact with the tyre and so formed as to mesh with teeth and gaps in the tyre tread. The roller may be carried by a link e, Fig. 1, pivoted to a fixed bracket d at a point eccentric to the wheel axis, so that when the roller engages the tyre in either of its extreme positions, according to the direction of rotation of the wheel, the roller tends automatically to engage the tyre more firmly. The arm may be held in its vertical or central position in which the roller is disengaged from the tyre, byacatch. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 the roller f is positioned between two road wheels b, b<SP>1</SP> and is raised and lowered to the disengaging and engaging positions by means of a handwheel k and screw i. The tyre may be given a preliminary cleaning by means of a scraper l, Fig. 5, carried by a movable arm m which also carries the roller f.
