Abstract

474,714. Endless - track vehicles. MORRIS COMMERCIAL CARS, Ltd. (Christie, J. W.) Jan. 7, 1937, No. 490. [Class 79 (i)] An endless-track comprises hinged plates, alternate plates having gaps to engage projections on the driving wheel, antifriction rollers being provided on either or each of the interacting parts of the track and the driving wheel, the arrangement being such that the driving pressure is imparted by the projections through the rollers to the track at positions on or adjacent to a circle containing the hinge pivots of the track plates passing round the wheel. In the construction shown the track comprises alternate plates 27, 29 hinged together at 40, the plates 27 having gaps 25 and the plates 29 having lugs 30. The driving wheel for the tracks has double spokes or discs 3 and carries rollers 17 mounted on pins 19 on lugs 13, 15. When the track passes around the wheel the lugs 30 on the track engage the rollers 17 and pass between the felloes 6 of the wheel, thus acting as lateral guides. The track plates ride on rubber tyres 11 secured between beads 7, 10 on the wheel. The lugs 30 are curved to fit the periphery of the driving wheel and are adapted to enter openings in the idler wheels as well as in the driving wheel.
