Abstract

542,342. Switch contacts. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1941, No. 643. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXII] A. contact comprises a raised surface constituted by a length of wire of a material of which the oxide is substantially a conductor, deformed and bonded by an amalgam process to a current-carrying member. In the examples silver wire 26 is used and is secured in a groove 29 in the copper blade 10 by first amalgamating the surfaces and then forcing in the wire while heating to drive off surplus mercury. The upper surface 26<SP>1</SP> of the contact is flattened by the pressure to a predetermined extent. Specifications 476.375, and 492,088, [both in Group XXII], are referred to.
