542,317. Aluminium hydroxide. ALBA PHARMACEUTICAL CO., Inc. May 9. 1940. No. 8370. Convention date, May 18, 1939. [Class 1 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] Preparations containing aluminium hydroxide of high and rapid acid neutralizing power intended specially for medicinal use are made by mixing an aqueous suspension of colloidal aluminium hydroxide with a water soluble carbohydrate and evaporating to dryness preferably in vacuo. Suitable carbohydrates are cane sugar, dextrine starch, gum acacia, sorbitol, gum tragacanth, the most suitable proportions being such that the dried product contains about 1/3 Al (OH) 3 to 2/3 carbohydrate. The temperature employed is preferably between 50‹ and 70‹C.
