Abstract

542,387. Glucose. CELEC CORPORATION, Ltd., and PHILLIPS, S. M. July, 4, 1940, No. 11242. [Class 127] Glucose syrup is prepared from rice, potatoes, maize, wheat, barley, yams, figs, dates &c. by boiling the materials under atmospheric pressure with strong hydrochloric acid until dissolved, distilling the solution in vacuo to recover hydrochloric acid, adding water to the residue and boiling to complete the conversion, neutralizing with an alkali and decolorizing and evaporating the syrup. If soda ash is used for neutralization, sodium chloride separates during the evaporation and may be treated to recover hydrochloric acid for re-use.
