Abstract

1,177,317. Purifying hydroxyethyl Cellulose. KALLE A.G. 18 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 60207/68. Heading G3A. Crude, water-soluble, hydroxyethyl cellulose containing alkali hydroxide is washed with a mixture of 50-70% by vol. methanol and 30- 50% by vol. acetone or isopropanol, the washing liquid is neutralized with phosphoric, nitric, sulphuric or hydrochloric acid and is subsequently distilled. Residual alkali hydroxide in the washed product may be neutralized with one of these acids or with acetic acid. Nitric acid is preferred.
