Abstract

[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In a machine of the kind comprising an endless band provided with files or abrasive elements, a support for the front run of the band abuts on a support which is of not greater width than the band and is provided with an adjustable guide for preventing lateral movement of the band. A band 18, Figs. 2 and 7, passing around upper and lower pulleys and carrying files or abrasive elements 27, abuts at the front on a support 33 consisting of bars 35, 36 which are of the same width as the band and are formed with a groove for receiving the file-securing rivets 29. The oars are secured by screws to vertically adjustable blocks 38, 43 which have side flanges for guiding the band and files. The bars are connected by a flanged guide-block 46, and the bar 35 carries another flanged, vertically adjustable guide-block 47. Either of the bars 35, 36 can be removed. Each file 27 is secured at one end by means of one or more rivets 29 or screws, and has the other end free so that it can separate from the band when the latter is moving around the pulleys. Alternatively, the files may be secured at the middle so as to leave both ends free. On the straight parts of the band, pins 30 engage holes 31 in the files to prevent lateral movement thereof. The end files have inclined abutting ends. For connecting the ends of the bands, one end is provided with an extension 19 having a key-hole slot 22 for engaging a headed pin 25 on the other end.
