Abstract

541,254. Machinery guards. BLAKEMORE & SONS, Ltd., D., and JOHNSON, J. T. June 11, 1940, No. 10130. [Class 80 (iv)] Relates to guards for milling and like machines of the kind comprising a pair of guard members pivotally mounted between front and back plates so that they can be readily and independently adjusted to accommodate one or more cutters of different sizes. The guard a, a<SP>1</SP> are secured by screws c to front and back plates b, b<SP>1</SP> and, according to the invention, these plates are formed towards each end of the vertical flange b<SP>1</SP> with a horizontal slot b<SP>2</SP> having a number of vertical slots b' extending therefrom. The screws pass through these slots and permit of the guard members being pivoted and adjusted laterally and vertically. The guard may be secured to the arbor support by clamps f or, in a modification, Fig. 3, by a clamping plate h bridging two arbor supports e. In a further modification, the members may be secured to an adjustable slide forming the arbor surport. A fish-tail jet may be associated with the underside of the plate h, Fig. 3, to improve the distrilbution of the cutting fluid.
