Abstract

542,712. Turning. GANDELL, W. R. K. Oct. 1, 1940, No. 14764. [Class 83 (iii)] Lathe tools, particularly parting tools, are held at angle to the slide rest between a member c, Fig. 1, having an inclined upper surface and a correspondingly angled pad b held down by a bolt d and prevented from sliding laterally by a stop pin e. The tool may be mounted to slope downwards for use at the rear of the lathe. Narrow plates g, g<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, may be interposed, less in width than the edge of the tool. These plates enter the cut and give increased rigidity. The plates may be held in slots by grub screws or bolted in a recess. Tools that have a sloping top face also have the pad formed with a corresponding but reverse incline and are located in a slot in the block c, Fig. 7, that also prevents displacement of the pad. A number of such tools may be clamped by screws in a common cross bar. The application to a swivel tool post is illustrated. The angle may be varied by the introduction of wedges.
