551,196. Machinery guards. UDAL, J. D., and EVANS, F. A. Nov. 20, 1941, No. 14946. [Class 80 (iv)] A guard for the rotary cutter of a milling or planing machine, saw or the like, comprises the combination of a carrier adapted to be secured over the cutter, and endwise adjustable rods mounted on the carrier and arranged to form a screen. The carrier consists of one or a pair of metal bars c which support a pair of transversely adjustable bars d secured together by spacing bolts e. The bars c are secured by clamps f to the bar b which supports the cutter a. Each of the bars d has a number of vertical holes g through which the screen rods h are inserted and secured by set-screws i. The rods may also pass through holes j in the bars c, or the bars d may be secured to the bars c by set-screws. In a modification, Fig. 4, the bars d are of channel form with slots m to receive the rods h which are gripped between a plate n secured to the closed side of the channel by bolts o and another inner plate n loaded by a spring p. The bars d are secured to the bars c by clamping pieces q with threaded portions s and tightening nuts t.
