Abstract

568,218. Machinery guards. LINDLEY & CO., Ltd., C., and ABBOTT, H. T. C. Aug. 24, 1943, No. 13815. [Class 80 (iv)] A guard for milling and like machines having a rotary cutter, comprises two relatively inclined rows of rigid rods 1 at the front and rear of the cutter 3, the rods being hold in a bar 2 by setscrews 9 so that they may be adjusted to permit of their lower ends conforming to the contour of a machine part 10 or of work mounted thereon. A side plate 4 forms a closure at one side, and the machine surface 8 at the other. The plate 4 is secured by bolts 5 to the bar 2 which is clamped at 11 to the mandrel support 10a. To prevent tampering with the setting of the guard, the set-screws 9 require a special key to turn them. In a modification, the rows of rods 1 are parallel to one another and a plate is provided at each side, the plates being prevented from springing by a tie-rod.
