Abstract

541,116. Fusible cut-outs. GARRETT, H. H., LAWSON, C. S., LAWSON BECK, Ltd., and ARCTIC FUSE & ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. May 11, 1940, No. 8528. [Class 38 (i)] A fuse strip or wire is made resiliently extensible by corrugating, bending, or coiling it, and is mounted under tension so that on fusion the severed ends are drawn apart. The strip h may be of a single metal such as silver, copper &c. or of different metals in series or parallel, and may have a spot of a more fusible metal such as tin applied to it or forming a connection between two portions of the strip, so as to cause fusion at a lower temperature in order to prevent destruction of the elasticity of the strip. In mounting one or more strips in a cartridge d the strip is resiliently extended and attached to end caps f, g. Contacts j are secured by outer caps m in engagement with the ends of the strips. Granular arc-quenching material k may be used.
