Abstract

540,771. Locking and construction of levers. BAMFORD, C. J., and BAMFORD, H. V. May 13, 1940, No. 8552. [Class 80 (iii)] Levers adapted to co-operate with a rack for locking purposes are constructed to yield laterally so as to be freed when required for adjustment purposes. The lever comprises a boss 10, secured by a bolt 12 to a shaft 11, and a part 16 provided with a handle or knob. The two parts are connected by a flexible blade 18 secured by bolts or rivets 20, 21 and, according to the invention, an auxiliary spring blade 22 is secured to either the boss 10 or the part 16 of the lever so as to press upon the blade 18. As shown, the blades 18, 22 are both secured by the rivets 20 to a seating 15 on the boss. The lever has a tooth 17 adapted to engage the rack 25, and a rail 26 prevents excessive movement away from the rack, or the rail-may be carried by the lever and engage the back of the rack.
