Abstract
540,645. Mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd., and MAVOR, J. B. April 20, 1940, No. 7161. Addition to 512,442. [Class 68 (i)] A longwall mining machine, with a cutterchain which can act on either side of the machine body, has conveyer apparatus constituting a modification of that of the parent Specification and including two interchangeable helical conveyers of opposite hand capable of being readily engaged with and removed from the same driving element the rotation of which is reversed with reversal of the cutter-chain. As shown, a detachable housing 7 carries a shaft 11 and gearing 10 adapted to be driven through a slipping clutch 12 and bevel 3 engaging the crown wheel 4; the interchangeable helical conveyer members F have a push fit on the shaft 11 and are held by the pressure of the cuttings. The shaft 11 may extend in the opposite direction, positive holding means being then required for the members F, which may be in the form of a continuous worm or helically arranged blades.
