Abstract
358,784. Coal-cutting machines. MOORE, M. S., 34, Rue de Bruxelles, Tervueren, Belgium. Nov. 27, 1930, No. 35704. Addition to 357,816, [Group XXX]. [Class 68 (i).] A machine for gathering coal &c. at the coal face and loading it into a conveyer in an adjacent runway of the kind described in the parent Specifica. tion is provided with a cutting appliance for undercutting the coal when the machine moves in one direction while the loader bar gathers up the broken coal as the machine moves in the other direction. The casing 3 carries a cutter chain 10, or bar, for undercutting the coal. A conveyer 2 is mounted on the casing by means of a turntable 43 so that it can be arranged in line with the casing or transversely of it. When the undercut has been completed, the conveyer is rotated into the cut and the broken down coal is removed by means of a toothed gathering bar 1a which feeds the coal over a toothed comb 7 on to the conveyer which discharges it into a conveyer 31 in the adjacent runway. A motor 4 drives the cutter through gearing 52, the conveyer 2 and gathering bar through a disconnectible coupling 62 and the haulage gear 5 through gearing 48. The cutter may have some of its teeth 70 replaced by scrapers 71, Fig. 7, for gathering loose coal on the non- cutting stroke. The teeth 6 of the gathering bar are arranged in a double helix.
