539,905. Vehicle wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and WHALE, G. H. June 10, 1940, No. 10086. [Class 144 (i)] A small-diameter wheel, particularly for use on aircraft, consists of pressings forming two axially-separable parts detachably secured together and each formed to provide a tyrebead seating surface and a tyre-retaining flange, one or each tyre-retaining flange merging into an integral inward flange serving to position a bearing-sleeve. In the form shown in the upper part of Fig. 1, the wheel consists of two pressings 1 with mating flanges 5, 6, the tyre-retaining flanges 2 merging into integral inward flanges 3 forming housings for the bearing-sleeves 4. In the lower half of the figure, the tyre-retaining flanges are shown formed of two separate parts 2, 2a welded together. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which one of the tyreretaining flanges 2 merges into a part 3 extending axially outwards to house the bearing. sleeve. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the two wheel parts are connected by bolts 8. Fig. 4 shows a further modification in which one tyre-retaining flange is of built-up tubular form and is detachably secured by a split ring 10 engaging facing grooves 12, 11 in the flange and wheel body.
