[Class 38 (i)] A wire coupling comprises a socket-like member attached to one wire and a co-operating flat or cylindrical terminal attached to the other wire each having means for gripping the insulation of the wire and a portion for securing the wire conductively to the socket, this portion being exposed for access with a soldering iron or spot-welding electrode. In one form the socket 5, Fig. 9, is flattened and contains a spring member 22 that presses the co-operating terminal 24 against the upper part 13 of the socket. A pair of claws 20 bent up from opposite sides of the shank 10 of the socket grip the insulation 1 of the wire 4, and the bared end of the wire lies upon an exposed surface 21 of the shank and is soldered or spot-welded thereto. The terminal 24 is formed with shoulders 38, Fig. 7, which engage behind ears turned down at opposite corners of the edge 17 of the socket. Dis-engagement is effected by pressing down the end 37 of the terminal against the action of the spring- member 22 and if the coupling is enclosed in a rubber sleeve 7 a protuberance 39 marks the point at which pressure should be applied. In a modification, the socket 47, Fig. 13, is formed on the opposite side of the base 42 to the claws 49 and the wiresecuring surface 46, and the spring member 52 presses the terminal 60 against the base 42 and has a projection 53 that engages a hole 62 in the terminal to retain it. The terminal is released by a direct pull. In a further modification the socket 65, Figs. 22, 23 is cylindrical and resilient and has a depression 74 constituting a retaining means for engaging an annular groove 82 in the ferrule 77 that forms the co-operating terminal. The groove 82 corresponds to an internal rib 81 that grips the insulation of the wire 2, the bared wire 4 being exposed through an opening 78 so that it can be secured by solder.
