539,302. Universal joints. STEVENS, A. H. (Universal Products Co.. Inc.). March 5. 1940. No. 4153. [Class 80 (ii)] In a universal joint and brake-drum assembly, the driving-shaft 10 Figs. 1 and 2, carries a collar 11 formed with radial ears 12 on opposite sides of which are secured by bolts 45 the web 43 of a brake-drum 42 and bearing-blocks 14, Fig. 3, for two of the trunnions 15 of the crossmember of the joint. The other two trunnions are journalled in a yoke-member 28 secured to the driven shaft. The torque is transmitted through a key 33 on each bearing-block 14, which is received in a keyway 32 in each of the ears 12, or the keys may be on the ears and the keyways formed in the bearing-blocks. Radial positioning of the bearing-blocks is secured by a shoulder 38 thereon, which bears against the inner face of a flange 35 formed on each of the ears 12. U.S.A.
