Abstract

539,026. Closures for containers. VACU-TOP CONTAINER CO., Ltd. Jan. 18, 1940, No. 1145. Convention date, Jan. 19, 1939. [Class 125 (iii)] A container 1 has a peripheral shoulder 2 and its closure 5 has a sunk central portion 8 and a peripheral portion 7. Two radial grooves 9 extend completely across this latter portion. The closure is held down by a spring 10 shaped as shown with ends 11 which pass through the grooves 9 and are shaped to fit round and under the shoulder 2 of the container. The ends 11 are separated. from the high central part 15 of the spring by V-shaped parts 13 which rest on the part 8 of the cap. The spring can be released by pressure on its central part 15 when the V-shaped parts serve as fulcrums and the ends are forced up. A resilient washer 4 is placed between the ribbed faces of the closure and container. In a modification, loops may be punched in the ends 11 of the spring; a wire is then passed through the loops and sealed so that the closure cannot be removed without the seal being broken. The arrangement permits containers to be stacked one above another.
