Abstract

538,885. Insulators. BUSHING CO., Ltd., and WINDER, H. E. Feb. 19, 1940, No. 3113. [Class 36] A bushing insulator having a shell A of porcelain, glass, or other vitreous insulation, is secured to a metal flange D by means of a tapered outer surface B and a packing G of wood, asbestos, or laminated fabric bonded with synthetic resin, secured preferably with the interposition of a washer H, by the shoulder E of a clamping ring E adapted to' pass over the tapered end. The washer and packing may comprise two semi-circular halves, or the packing may be formed on the taper in a plastic or semi-plastic state and allowed or caused to set. An oil-tight joint between the insulator and flange is effected by a rubber, synthetic rubber, or cork washer C, and fibrous packing, putty, bituminous compound, or red lead fillings J, J<1> are provided.
