Abstract

538,073. Chain conveyers. NEW CONVEYOR CO., Ltd., and SMITH, J. V. April 17, 1940, No. 6944. [Classes 78 (i) and 104 (ii)] In a conveyer in which carriers for goods are supported by hangers d which have rollers running on an overhead rail f and are connected and moved along the rail by a power-driven chain j, the chain links i are pivoted at k to the hanger and adjacent ends of the links are interconnected by means for causing an angular movement of either link to be accompanied by movement of the hanger about the pivot of the other link, in order to keep the hanger at right angles to the rail. As shown, the adjacent ends of the links have pairs of interengaging toothed sectors m housed between a pair of plates forming the hanger, and a trip-operating rod n is housed between each pair of sectors. In modifications, (1) a single tooth on one link engages between a pair of teeth on the other ; (2) a pin-and-slot connection is provided between overlapping extensions of the links ; and (3) each link is connected by another link to a member slidable vertically between the hanger plates. Trip mechanism for effecting the discharge movement of the goods carrier is enclosed in a housing h carried by arms g on the hanger and is actuated by the rod n, which is connected to a lever o operable by ramps p on the rail f.
