Abstract

537,532. Cyclization of hydrocarbons. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Feb. 23, 1940, No. 3440. Convention date, April 8, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group III] A catalyst for the cyclization of hydrocarbons comprises a mixture of aluminium oxide and an oxide of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten or uranium, formed by co-precipitation. After washing, the mixed precipitate is dried and heated to 300-400‹C. for 3-6 hours. The hydrocarbon vapour to be treated is passed over the catalyst at a temperature of 300-600 ‹C. and at a rate of 0.1-5 volumes of liquid feed per volume of catalyst per hour. Hydrogen may be added to the vapour. In a modification the finely divided catalyst is injected into the oil vapour.
