Abstract

537,294. Moulding hollow articles. ZANG, M. Nov. 15, 1939, No. 30117. [Class 87 (ii)] A mould for casting dolls' heads or other hollow articles in which one or more apertures are required, is provided with a corresponding number of members 12, Fig. 6, each of which projects into the mould and is moved in further after pouring, to displace a portion 17a of the cast material. The member 12 may have a mould surface 12.b, e.g. to form an eye socket, and be held by a spring 15a until the cast material has partly set. The spring is then removed from the notch 12c and the pin 12a pushed inwards. In a modification the member 12 has a short rigid or flexible tongue arranged at an angle to the pin 12a so that by rotating this by a handle the tongue removes the material desired. A mouth opening may be produced by similar means. The mould halves are aligned by tongues 4. Fig. 1, and are clamped together by levers 6, 7 supported in the clamping position by a bracket 10.
