Abstract

535,829. Luminescent materials. BERRY, G. J. Oct. 20, 1939, No. 28367. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups VII and XI] A walking stick has a hollow ferrule 5 in which there are slots 6 and an electric lamp 10 set above the slots so as to project light downwardly when in use. The ferrule may be fixed or telescopic ; the main stick part houses a battery 11 and a wood rod 13, a spring 12 being placed between the battery and rod ; grooves in the rod receive leads to a press-button switch 17. A reflector 24, Fig. 3, of rubber, may be fixed on the stick in which case the lamp need not be set above the slots. The slots may be covered with translucent windows and the inside of the ferrule may be coated with fluorescent paint. The ferrule is held in the sleeve 3 by a spring 7 movable in a slot 8 in the sleeve. One or more openings may be provided in the bottom of the ferrule. The stick is of metal or plastic material ; it may hold reserve batteries.
