Abstract
534,383. Making dynamo-electric machines. SCOTT, W. Feb. 16, 1940, No. 2968. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] Angular bending; dies. - A casing or carcase for a dynamo-electric machine is built up from a number of lengths of metal stock arranged longitudinally and welded or otherwise secured along their edges. Stock of T-section may be employed and the flanges bent to the curvation of the carcase, the webs forming cooling fins. The lengths of stock 3 are welded at 13 either along their whole lengths or at the end portions only. A number of separate sections may be thus built up and assembled around the core 6, which consists of laminations held in clips 14. The sections are then welded together, or secured by shrunk on straps or otherwise. Feet 21 may be welded to the edges of some of the webs 8 of the stock 3 and secured by plate 24 welded to the feet and some of the other flanges. The whole may be surrounded by an outer shell forming, with the webs 8, passages through which passes air drawn by a fan 30 through a perforated end plate 34.
