Abstract
182,896. Joel, H. F., and Joel, H. F. April 9, 1921. Armatures and field magnets, cooling; cores.- A fan structure and spacing separator for rotor and stator cores of dvnamoelectric machines is constructed in the form of a ring having a corrugated surface, or ridges and recesses. Fig. 1 shows a corrugated-ring separator S in position with the laminated core-plates A; the ring may be secured between two plates, and may be extended outwardly to support the teeth. Openings 0 are left in the end plates to admit cooling-air which is expelled at the periphery. The ring may be made of strip metal, corrugated and afterwards bent into the required form, or the complete ring may be stamped or cast. In bending a strip of metal into a circle, the recesses on the outer edge are made deeper than on the inner edge to allow for distortion. Fig 8 shows a construction suitable for armatures of large diameter. A strip of tape is perforated to admit the passage of air, and is then folded into sinuous loops F, C. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the two sides of the loops R are drawn together and extend upwards for the support of the teeth A. The bends G project inside the core and serve as air inlets from the ducts O. Fig. 15 shows a form in which the tape R has angular points which are bent upwards and downwards to form air inlets and outlets W. Twisted metal tape or woven or spiral wire may be used to form the corrugated ring. According to one of the Provisional Specifications the ridges of the type illustrated in Fig. 12 may be set at an angle to the radial line, or may be curved, and in a modified construction, grooved strips or tubes may be attached to the corrugated ring and extended between the teeth in the armature ducts.
